Verszn is a software utility that takes data snapshots of the computer file system and registry. These snapshots can then be compared to indicate changes that have taken place in the system between snapshots.

Such comparisons between computer states can be used to determine:

• How to repair the system due to changes in the file system and registry;
• How various software installations change the file system and registry;
• How Windows and other software utilize the file system and registry.

Comparisons can also be made between different computer file systems and different user registries.

Verszn only analyzes the system and makes no changes in itself, so it is a benign tool that reveals valuable information.

Verszn works in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2. It requires the .NET 3.5 Framework.

Verszn has 3 basic functions for each of the file and registry systems:

• 1. Archive data for the file and registry
• 2. Display archived data for the file and registry
• 3. Compare archived data sets between snapshots for the file and registry

The comparison between the data sets can also be saved in html or xml format.

To create a snapshot of all or part of the File system, users select the drive and the directories to archive.

Stored File data can be loaded back to view and to compare side-by-side with current File system data.

Snapshots from the same and different systems can be compared with each other to generate a table that indicates where and how they differ.

To create a snapshot of all or part of the Registry, users select the nodes to archive.

Stored Registry data can be loaded back to view and to compare side-by-side with current Registry data.

Snapshots from the same and different systems can be compared with each other to generate a table that indicates where and how they differ.

Comparison tables can then be saved in HTML or XML format.

The program also has the following options available to the user:

• Columns -- allowing for custom display of the various file properties
• Colors -- allowing for customization of the screen colors to suit the user
• Inclusions and Exclusions -- to provide for filtering results when archiving and comparing
• Aliasing -- allowing for comparing of file systems from different drives and of different registry hives
